Students are finishing their sites in preparation for beginning their core curriculum (english and science) Monday. Students have been given a checklist of benchmarks they need to have before the end of the week.

Remember that any content students want to save from their previous web pages must be transferred to their sites by the end of today! Over the weekend I am replacing the links to their pages with links to their sites.

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Today students will be finishing their four class pages (science, english, math, and social studies) and then working on their home page. Make sure you transfer over anything you want to keep from your previous PAGE because I'm deleting them this weekend. Instead of linking to your page, next week the school navigation bar will link to your SITE. Get it?

IMPORTANT!

Please view the "Sample Student Site" on the navigation bar to see what your assignment should look like when it's done.

If you finish early you should be working on your Home page. Make sure there is a link to your Home page on your navigation bar!

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Today you should have all received a message from me about upgrading your free website account to a Premium Educator's space. If you haven't followed the instructions in that message, we'll do that as a class.

Right now, any pages you create are automatically listed on your navigation bar in alphabetical order. We are going to take control of the navigation bar today so we can post pages in any order we want and add labels to them.

HOMEWORK FOR TODAY

  1. Upgrade your account to a Premium Account.

  2. Create a link to the school wiki on your navigation bar (www.lionsgateacademy.wikispaces.com)

  3. Create four class pages on your site (English, Science, Math, Social Studies).

  4. Create links to the four pages on your navigation bar and label them appropriately. ("School Pages", "School Stuff", "Class Pages", etc)

REMEMBER THAT YOU NEED TO COPY AND PASTE ANY CONTENT FROM YOUR PAGES TO YOUR WEBSITE BY FRIDAY!

ANNOUNCEMENT

I will be changing the links on the navigation bar to direct visitors to your WEB SITES this week. That means you have until Friday to copy/paste any content from your page to your site before it's removed. The link text will have your name only.

As soon as you're ready for me to change the link to your SITE, send me a message (remember to use "mrwignall").

Have fun working on those sites, people!

WEB PAGES OF THE WEEK

Here is the second collection of Web Pages of the Week! If you are interested in having your page become a Web Page of the Week, here are the things I'm looking for (in this order):
  1. Did you complete the assignment?
  2. Did you put a lot of effort into your writing?
  3. Was your work visually attractive? (nice colors, fonts, size, etc)
  4. Did you insert images that were related to the assignment? (train pictures/videos if you're talking about trains, etc)
  5. Did you add extra things that weren't required, but somehow added to the quality of your work?
  6. The "Cool Factor": Is there anything else that somehow makes your page stand out among the rest?

Without further ado, here they are...your Web Pages of the Week!

CaseyJ's game page for beginners to masters : I picked Casey's page because he did the assignment exactly the way he was asked and his writing was excellent. One of the things I noticed this week was that students were more interested in doing other things on their pages than the assignment, but Casey made sure he did a great job before he started adding other content. Great job, Casey!
Corinne G's page of sweetness : Corinne always does a good job on whatever she's doing, but last week she went above and beyond what was required! She created 8 links to student pages instead of 5, and did a good job explaining what she liked about each of them. Corinne is also a "Website to Watch" so she had a GREAT week! You're doing awesome, Corinne!
Alex N's Page : Boy, oh boy did Alex work hard last week. Every day he came into class excited and ready to learn something new. He didn't get too frustrated when the internet was slow and kept a great attitude. I like the way Alex did his links and paragraphs because he put the link on top of the paragraph instead of right next to it (like I'm doing!). It's creativity and originality like that that makes Alex's page stand out from others. I love your attitude, Alex!
sharif m. cool page : I'm incredibly excited to have Sharif's page as a Page of the Week. Sharif really picked up his effort last week and created all of his links and paragraphs. I like how he finished his assignment even though he might not have felt like doing it, and I think good attitude and effort makes all the difference in life. Sharif, you're on the right path! Stick with it!
matt c's bubbly page : I knew Matt's page was going to be a Page of the Week very early in the week. Not only did he complete the assignment, but he used different colors for each link and his enthusiasm and positive attitude is really easy to see! I couldn't wait to list his page as a Page of the Week because Matt worked very hard and had such creative paragraphs. Stay bubbly, Matt!
